Birch Aquarium
Our baby is becoming a little girl. We had a mommy and me date to the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla the other day and I was hit with the realization (yet again) that she is growing up. She no longer sits snuggled up to me in her carrier, she wants to get down and explore the world by herself. And she is oh so interested in the world around her. Watching her observe the sea life at the aquarium, I noticed she was actually learning. She was fascinated by the creatures swimming and floating in the picture tanks. And she was quick to touch new things like the bumpy starfish and slimy sea cucumber. I try to always fill her ears with adjectives explaining these new senses to her, but I can’t help but wonder what she was thinking looking at those fisheys and touching those sea creatures.
Every day she is becoming more of my little buddy instead of my little baby. But I’m not about to let her grow up just yet. I’ll still take advantage of all those sweet moments when she leans back into my chest and snuggles while I read Corduroy for the thousandth time before bed. I feel those moments slipping by too quickly, and I am already dreading the day she is off and away to college. For now, I’ll try to breathe more slowly in hopes that time will slow down.
